We are Maryland Filmmaker's club, premier video production student group on campus here at the University of Maryland, College Park. We specialize in everything video production, writing, shooting, directing, producing, editing etc. This semester we are working on 3 major ways to get you involved in the film making community both in and around campus: Short Films, Commissioned Productions, and a new will-be-a-hit web series.
The short films are the tried and true function of the club. Pitch ideas at the start of the semester and use the rest of the semester to write, shoot and edit them in a crew of your peers. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and the audience will do the same when we show your production on the big screen at the end of the semester at the Maryland Film Festival.
The productions are requested by groups who need a video done for an event, promotion or just for fun. These groups then pay the club and we get more money to budget for extra cool equipment. They require less time than the short film and are a fun thing to do on a Sunday morning when you have nothing better to do. These productions are also shown at the festival. If you want to sign up for the production team and didn't do so at today's meeting then shoot us an email with your name, previous experience (not required) and your preferred position (directing, editing, writing, camerawork, etc) at this address with the subject "Production Team Signup" and we'll hook you up.
The web series is completely new this semester and requires a minimal amount of time and effort from you. It's a quick and easy way to get experience without the pressures of deadlines or the responsibility of being on a short film crew. There will be times where we meet to write skits, film content and edit and all you would have to do is show up and bring your smiling face.
NEXT TIME AT MDFC we will be pitching short film ideas. This is very important if you have an idea and want a crew to help you put things together. In order to pitch an idea you MUST print and fill out the form (below) with information about your idea and then present it to the rest of the club, people will then vote on it if it sounds like a project they would like to work on, then if it gets approved people will sign up to be on the crew for your short film. Please note that it is very important that you fill out the form because without it, you don't get to pitch.
